Introducing mask.ED

mask.ED is Vamos Theatre’s learning portal where you can get all the support you need for teaching mask, devising and physical theatre.

Logging into mask.ED, teachers access practical and inspiring film-based teaching created with flexibility of delivery in mind, accompanied by comprehensive, easy-to-use notes and lesson support. Immediately teachable, each module is presented in a series of building-block units that provide excellent clarity of connection between classroom workshops and exam board requirements, suitable for different year groups across KS3 and KS4. The intuitive, easy-to-use presentation provides a platform to for more experienced teachers, but is easily followed by non-specialists. 

The first in the series is available now; Module 1 Using Mask in Drama is suitable for KS3 with an emphasis on preparing students for GCSE Drama, and comprises 6 lesson units covering all the essential techniques of mask and non-verbal theatre. Module 1 - Using Mask in Drama

Using Mask in Drama is a lively and practical introduction to mask and physical performance. Watch a sample lesson here. The five units in the module cover each of the mask theatre foundation skills essential to physical confidence on stage including:

Unit 1: Characterisation
Unit 2: Clocking
Unit 3: Focus
Unit 4: Counter Mask
Unit 5: Internal Monologue

Who's it suitable for?
The skills base is suitable for KS3 and KS4, with an emphasis on preparing students for the demands of both the written and practical aspects of GCSE Drama.

Each unit is based around a unit film, designed to support you in delivering the lesson, with interactive video facilitation by us.  The film includes games and exercises, performance techniques, exerts from professional theatre scenes to discuss, language for learning and opportunities to practice skills as you go. Each unit is supported by comprehensive Teacher's Notes and accompanying Learning Resources (Powerpoint)
