We are excited to introduce the Vamos Emerging Artists programme.
We're out to discover the next generation of 18- 24-year-old mask performers from diverse communities across the UK.
Working with seven partner venues, we've invited emerging and inquisitive young artists to take part in free or subsidised mask taster sessions over the last 6 months, learning mask work, creating physical character and devising non-verbal theatre that connects and moves audiences.
From these taster workshops, we've now brought together a group of emerging artists for a residency to create and perform mask theatre from shared stories and backgrounds, finalising in public performances.
The Vamos Emerging Artists Programme is supported using public funding by Arts Council England, and by the Barry Jackson Trust.
Who is Next Door?
Do we know who lives next door? What happens on the other side of that wall? We all have neighbours, but who are they? They are you and me. We all have stories. Stories of love, tales of mishap; nothing is too big or too small to mention. It's what makes us unique.
Vamos Theatre brings together the most exciting early-career mask actors in the UK, discovered during workshops across the country. During the four-day residency of play and devising, the group has been working with personal stories, special objects and the Vamos Theatre team to create joyous, playful and touching theatre from the seemingly mundane stories of everyday life.

TRANSCRIPT We are excited to introduce the Vamos Emerging Artists programme. We want to discover the next generation of 18- 24-year-old mask performers from diverse communities across the UK. Working with seven partner venues, we are inviting emerging and inquisitive young artists to take part in free or subsidised mask taster sessions. Join us for a quick-paced mask performance workshop where you can learn Vamos Theatre’s approach to mask work, creating physical character and devising non-verbal theatre that connects and moves audiences. At two venues we are able to offer BSL interpretation. From these taster workshops, we will bring together a group of emerging artists for a residency in summer 2022 to create and perform mask theatre from shared stories and backgrounds. We welcome all, and particularly encourage artists from diverse ethnic backgrounds to apply. Vamos Theatre is an inclusive company; please let us know how we can make accessing this programme easier for you.
My experience was absolutely incredible! This workshop was totally eye opening for me.
I didn't have to worry about not knowing anything about mask acting, it was totally un-intimidating and I had a really great time!
Engaging and interesting and so enjoyable. I left feeling really inspired.
Really excited to play around and see what moments can be highlighted in a performance by removing language!
