Thank you to all the participants, venues and staff who've taken part in our touring project, Mischief, which has been visiting venues in the West Midlands this month.
Created especially for children and young people with sensory issues, learning disabilities and/or autism, Mischief is a 60-minute celebration featuring comic out-and-about performance, interactive sensory play, and a special mask theatre workshop for staff and students. It's been performed and led by our Artistic Director, Rachael Savage, and Creative Producer, Honor Hoskins.
It's been a joyous tour which has visited SENSE Birmingham, The Broad Group Worcester, National Star College Gloucester and Fort Royal School, Worcester. We'd like to say a special thank you to participants and staff who helped make each performance such a positive experience for all.
Kirsty Broadbent of The Broad Group commented, "Thank you for our wonderful experience of “Mischief” on Tuesday. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it has left us wanting more. All our participants got so much out of the session and I still chuckle at the memory of Kevin having a baby! Magic! I would recommend Vamos to anyone."
Vamos Theatre's Health Connector, Hazel Ratcliffe, who organised the tour commented, "Boy, did we cause some 'mischief’ with our mini tour this September - the beauty of Vamos Theatre and the performers' experience and versatility is that we can blend, flow and embrace whatever setting we find ourselves in, making mischievous magic as we go. And, of course, it's really about the participants and staff, who brought so much to each performance - they were really up for fun and made the tour a real success."
This tour of Mischief has been supported by our core funders, Arts Council England, and Councillor Lynn Denham (Cathedral ward, Worcester)
Wonderd if the show would be coming to swansea Wales,as my company, rising stars (special needs group) would certainly like to come along
ReplyNational Star students and staff relished the mischief encountered earlier this week with Vamos. So much energy and connection across the two workshops held at Star. Thank you to Rachael and Honor for their fun, naughtiness, sensitivity and play. Looking forward to seeing you again with the follow up tour, ‘Mayhem’!
ReplyHere are a couple of reflections from staff attending the workshops with their students.
‘I loved it! To see a group of students come together who had never shared such a close space as one before, was amazing on its own.
I loved how Rachel and Honor asked about the groups needs and gave us the okay to move things around. It made me feel relaxed, rather than feeling the need to apologise for wanting to make a space that was right for the group.
And then…watching the atmosphere grow and emerge during the workshop was powerful and beautiful. Seeing students stay for longer periods of time in an unknown environment, how they interacted with staff to explore the resources and respond to the changing music and pace.
It was full of students individual pockets of exploration, that sometimes crossed over into each others space and pace, but because of the trust and how to experience was met by all…it came together beautifully.
Thank you Rachel and Honor’
‘It was just so wonderful to see all of those students share that space and engage, explore and initiate in their own ways. It was completely student led and am now inspired to try and adopt a similar approach in my Expressive Arts session and see what happens. The fact that there was no talking was so powerful and a reminder to myself. It was a truly magical experience and a real pleasure to be a part of.
Thank you so much’
