The members of Vamos Young People’s Theatre have taken on a challenging project to research and stage a performance centred around World War One, and in particular, the life of music hall artist Vesta Tilley.
Inspired and supported by Worcestershire's World War 100 Project, our group of 9-13 year olds, led by Kathryn Green, has spent this year looking into life in Worcestershire during the 1914-18 war. With the help of Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, they’ve been learning how to find the kind of interesting stories that can become good theatre, in the same way that Vamos Theatre itself creates its professional shows. What they discover will feed into a performance, which will centre around the role of Worcester-born music hall artist Vesta Tilley in the war’s recruitment drive, and the impact of the war on those men she recruited.
The 9-13 group's first ever show will premiere at The Hive in Worcester, and then be performed as part of a young people’s showcase at Highly Sprung's Physical Fellowship, taking place at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry on Thursday 21st July at 7:00pm.
Tickets for the showcase are on sale from The Belgrade Theatre box office: 024 7655 3055
