Vamos Central, our Youth Theatre for young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities, performed for the first time last week as part of Voices and Visions at Worcester Cathedral.

Members of the group, who are aged between 16 and 25, devised their show especially for the event, and entertained audiences in the cathedral grounds. They performed in full mask, something they are learning, along with other physical theatre skills, at weekly sessions held at Worcester Arts Workshop.

Vamos Theatre Artistic Director, Rachael Savage, commented on the group’s debut, “Proud doesn’t even come close to describe how we felt. This was a confident, funny and focussed performance that they pulled off brilliantly. Here’s to the next one!

Led by experienced practitioners, Vamos Central is a place to discover and develop performance skills in a safe and supportive environment, where everyone is valued and treated with respect. The group meets weekly in term time to learn theatre skills (including the full mask for which Vamos Theatre is internationally renowned), have fun, be playful, and create and share inspiring theatre.

Vamos Youth Theatre also performed at Voices and Visions, guiding the audience between different parts of the promenade performance as medieval characters in mask.

Both Vamos Central and Vamos Youth Theatre will have new places available in the Autumn term. For more information see our Learning pages at  www.vamostheatre.co.uk/learning/join-in
