Huge thanks to Linda Pearson and all the volunteers at Radio Leyland, who’ve got so many care home residents waving during The Wednesday Wave.
Radio Leyland is a volunteer-run Community radio station that plays a big role in connecting the local community. Its schedule includes Magic Moments, a dementia-friendly afternoon show for older listeners, playing requests for care home residents and connecting people through a Facebook group. Since finding out about The Wednesday Wave (Vamos Theatre’s campaign to combat loneliness during the pandemic) volunteers from the station have been waving every Wednesday at care homes throughout the district, covering around eleven different towns and villages over the weeks.
Linda Pearson, a volunteer at the station added, “I was thinking the waving should go on in the New Year, as we are not 'out of the woods' yet with the Covid situation! Thanks for thinking of this idea, it's brought lots of smiles to many elderly people.”
Congratulations to everyone at the station, and we hope you can carry on waving into the New Year!
