A great big Vamos Theatre welcome to this year’s Vamos Emerging Artists, who have been chosen to attend a four-day full mask residency with us at 101 Outdoor Arts, Newbury in July.

Each year the programme invites inquisitive early career artists from diverse communities across the country to take part in free or subsidised mask taster sessions, learning mask techniques, creating physical character and devising non-verbal theatre that connects and moves audiences. We welcome everyone, and particularly deaf and disabled artists and artists from low socio-economic and/or diverse ethnic backgrounds, to take part.

From these taster workshops, we bring together a group of artists for a residency to create and perform mask theatre from shared stories and backgrounds, finalising in public performances.

After a number of taster workshops this year, where we were lucky enough to meet some incredibly committed and talented participants, we’ve now got our final group, who will join us between 10th and 13th July for four days of intensive training, exploring how mask can work in outdoor performance, as well as on stage.

Welcome and congratulations to: Amy Addis, Ines Aresti, Amy Askew, Gracie Avery, Kate Evans, April King, Harvey Kitchen, Sarah Lamb, Jonny Mills, Shota (Oshow) Oshitani, Lillie Prowse, Scarlett Rolls, and Tsoi Huen Wong.
