Congratulations to Vamos Central, our group of experienced actors with mild to moderate learning disabilities, for its joyous summer performance, Have Patients.
Performed last week at the University of Worcester, Have Patients explored the strange and unexpected world of the GP’s surgery, telling the story of how a lowly janitor is forced to assume the role of GP, and who - of course - eventually saves the day.
Non-verbal, accessible, riotous and hilarious, Have Patients was devised and created by members of Vamos Central - Megan Alban, Ashley Bishton, Micah Broadbent, Mark Desmond, Dylan Hackett, Sophie Martin, Elsie-May Merlin, Tom Redmond, Jonathan Rigby, James Selvey and Charlie Teasdale - with the support of Vamos Theatre staff and volunteers, Sam Strachan, Zailee Beer, Claire Birch, and Tracy Murphy.
The audience was packed with families, friends, colleagues and supporters and the atmosphere wonderfully supportive. Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on Vamos Central. Thank you also to the fantastic team at the University of Worcester, in particular technician Sophie Keeble and to Sima Gonsai for film and production.
Vamos Theatre’s Artistic Director, Rachael Savage, commented, “This was Vamos Central’s most ambitious show to date. I couldn’t believe the level of detail in the mask work and how the actors’ mask and stage skills have developed so much. A stunning evening!”
