Dementia Action Week, the awareness campaign led by Alzheimer’s Society, runs from 18th-24th May – and there’s lots going on to help us all act together on dementia.
There are plenty of events, information and campaigns happening, including the Alzheimer’s Society’s Forget Me Not appeal, raising money through the sale of pin badges and collecting people’s personal stories about dementia – creating a movement of hope, action and unity. If you’d like to support the campaign, visit the Alzheimer’s Society webpage.
In our home county, Worcestershire Libraries are hosting a range of welcoming, inclusive events to raise awareness, share knowledge, and support people living with dementia, their families, carers, and the wider community. All events are free and are designed to be friendly, relaxed, and accessible. You can find out more on the WCC website.
During Dementia Action Week, we’ll be out delivering two of our dementia-focussed workshops and performances – Listening with your Eyes, which practically explores the impact of our body language, mood, eye-contact, touch, gesture, and tone of voice in dementia care, helping carers to make positive connections; and Mischief! an interactive performance and celebration featuring comic characters, interactive sensory play, and empathetic learning for care staff. You can find out more about these and more of our workshops and performances on our Arts in Health pages.
Please support where you can, and spread the word!
