To coincide with Neurodiversity Celebration Week (17th-23rd March), we've launched our new training workshop, Empathising with ADHD, created to build understanding and awareness of the ADHD experience.
We developed this latest workshop after two successful tours of our award-winning theatre show about ADHD, Boy on the Roof, named as one of The Stage’s Top 50 Shows of the Year. The show was created with advice and guidance from many people living with ADHD, and we realised that there was a need for training that would give participants skills to better understand the ADHD experience, whether others’ or their own.
Empathising with ADHD is a hands-on workshop where participants explore ADHD through practical games and exercises, discovering ways in which neurodivergent minds can be different from the neurotypical, how to create empathetic environments where ADHD brains can flourish, and understanding terminology around neurodiversity. Everyone's ADHD is unique and the workshop gives participants a range of tools for compassionately supporting someone with ADHD, whether at home, work, in a health or education setting. It is a perfect introduction to ADHD for organisations or individuals.
Originally commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and endorsed by Prof. Ellie Dommett, Professor of Neuroscience at King’s College London, Empathising with ADHD has been developed by our Artistic Director, Rachael Savage, and neurodivergent artist Gavin Maxwell, co-founder of GymJam Theatre and a performer and practitioner with international physical theatre company, Frantic Assembly.
