In our celebration of childhood, our The Best Thing-themed series puts the spotlight on our Lighting Designer, Chris Barham, and General Manager, Charlotte Gregory.

The Best Thing about me is....
Charlotte: I'm not afraid to follow my heart.
Chris: I thrive on having a sense of humour and getting through life with a smile every day, it improves life in every way!

What did you want to be when you were 10 years old?
Charlotte: A writer/illustrator or fashion designer
Chris: A DJ! And I was! At the age of 8, I started my own mobile disco, and ran this until I was 25.

What was the first single you bought? And in what format?
Charlotte: PJ and Duncan 'Psyche' on CD ("Watch us wreck the mic, Watch us wreck the mic..............Psyche!")
Chris: My first single for the disco, was Kylie Minogue ‘I should be so lucky’ on the glorious retro format of the vinyl 7” record.

What was your most cringeworthy childhood outfit?
Charlotte: My '90's gothic phase was interesting...
Chris: The one I wore for the discos, being a silver sequinned waistcoat, with a sparkly glitter bowler hat.

What was your favourite childhood holiday?
Charlotte: We did the same family holiday in the Limousin, France, every August and I loved it! Especially the night time crayfish poaching with local farmers behind our gite equipped with head torches and buckets!
Chris: I could say Disney world, Florida, but the truly memorable experiences were with family when visiting the good old traditional camps of Butlins and Pontins.

The Best Thing about me as a child was...
Charlotte:  Growing up carefree in Cornwall.
Chris:  I had no idea how silly I looked in my sparkly waistcoat, and that being called CJ the DJ would come back to haunt me one day!
