Practical, playful, and powerful ways to connect in dementia care
The Art of Care is an online, low cost training course for carers promoting empathetic dementia care and exploring the art of connection beyond words. Through ten bite sized films, The Art of Care looks at what good care is: not perfect care — good care, kind care, fun care - the kind of care we’d all want for ourselves.
Originally commissioned by, and made in collaboration with, PrimeLife care homes, The Art of Care is for anyone who cares for people living with dementia, whether professionally or in the home. Each episode gives carers real life tools and ideas to use in daily life, showing how even very small shifts in approach can create profound changes in the care we give. This series is more than training — it's about connection, respect, and insight, showing practically how compassionate, person-centred, playful care positively impacts people living with dementia and those that care for them.
Costing only £6 per person for a year’s access, the course uses scenes performed by actors to show best-practice care in action, exploring non-verbal skills such as eye contact, mirroring, deep listening and touch, and specific situations such as mealtimes. They explore why taking responsibility for one’s own body language is important, why reading someone else’s body language is empowering, and how communicating effectively without words is something we can all do brilliantly.
This course offers powerful ways to change what care feels like. It’s a challenge to reimagine, a shift we can all be part of, for a culture change in care, powered by empathy, joy, and genuine human connection.
