Vamos would like to welcome its two new apprentices Sorcha Cummins and Amy Lyons, who are working with us for the next month during Nursing Lives. Both apprentices will be taking on stage management roles, assisting in the rehearsal room as well as helping with design buying, making and technical set-ups.

Amy is a student at the University of Worcester and is studying a joint Honours in Arts and Design and Drama and Performance Studies. She says she jumped at the chance to work with Vamos, seeing the opportunity as "a brilliant chance to marry my two subjects in both a practical context and experience a professional environment". Sorcha worked on the research for the original Nursing Lives back in 2009. Her past work includes teaching puppetry and mask at Bristol Old Vic, working as a props and scenic assistant for Birmingham Rep, assisting on Black Country Touring’s EAT and as a performer for Fetch Theatre Company. Three years ago she founded a T.I.E company, Storyhunter, and is keen to learn how to create a definite vision, direction and structure for a successful touring theatre company.

Vamos has run an apprentice scheme for the last four years. We offer a number of placements annually which give valuable training and experience to those wanting to pursue a career in the arts, whether as stage manager, technician, administrator, or performer. Many of our former apprentices have gone on to be accepted into drama schools or further training, leading to professional work. We fundraise regularly for our apprentice positions: if you are interested in helping, please have a look at our Support Us pages.

Good luck to Amy and Sorcha over the next few weeks – we’re glad to have you with us!
