Vamos is delighted to be involved in an exciting project which forms part of the celebrations marking the 50th Anniversary of the Belgrade Theatre Coventry’s dedicated Theatre in Education Company.

The Belgrade, regarded as the pioneer of Theatre in Education (TiE) in the UK, is still considered the standard for TiE organisations; Vamos is honoured to be part of celebrating such an important part of our theatre history. During the project, which extends over seven months, Vamos is running a fortnightly session with the theatre’s Asian Youth Theatre, led by Honor Hoskins. Members of the group are learning mask techniques and will use these new skills to create a theatre piece to be performed at the Inspiring Curiosity festival in July, held at the Belgrade – a showcase for some of the best new work by and for young people. Other companies involved in the festival include the Royal Shakespeare Company and Frantic Assembly.

Honor, who has worked with the Belgrade’s young people since December, commented, “It is an absolute pleasure to be working with the Belgrade Theatre on such an inspirational project. The Asian Youth Theatre is a talented and creative group with bags of energy and enthusiasm and  it promises to be an exciting process, addressing challenging issues through mask performance."

The final work can be seen at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry in an action packed weekend of performances, workshops, talks and interactive events from 17 – 21 July.
