Vamos was delighted to be part of a fantastic event for young people this week, organised by the Association of Care Training (ACT). The career-focussed two days, hosted by Bishop Perowne School in Worcester, gave young people the chance to find out about careers in the care sector, and the opportunities available to them through apprenticeships.
Alongside presentations and role play by members of ACT, Vamos's Rachael Savage talked to students about how Vamos came to make Finding Joy, the company’s show about the relationship between a young carer and his grandma, who is living with dementia. Vamos then performed Out for Tea, a short mask piece designed to show positive care in action, and how empathy and physical connections can help in caring for someone with dementia. The students were also able to take part in mask workshops, learning some of the skills of non-verbal communication so useful in the caring profession, and workshops covering vacancies, work experience, apprenticeships and recruiting for values and attitude.
