Vamos was pleased to be back at Highly Sprung’s Physical Fellowship recently, leading workshops in full mask theatre.

Run by Highly Sprung Performance Company, The Physical Fellowship event is a performance platform for young people aged 12-21. It promotes the sharing of original, choreographed and devised performance in all forms of physical theatre and enables young performers to benefit from professional dance and physical theatre performance and experiences.

This year the Physical Fellowship took place at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, partnering 8 schools and 2 youth groups from Coventry, Warwickshire, Solihull and Birmingham. Nearly 250 young people took part as audiences, participants and performers.

Vamos’s Marissa Gunter worked with two schools each day, leading one of the two professional workshops in the morning, after which the young participants took part in a masterclass with Highly Sprung. After a fast paced technical rehearsal, both school groups performed on the main stage in front of friends and families.

Marissa had a great week, commenting, “I was delighted to be able to work with such engaged young people; they had obviously been well trained! They were open to the potentiality of looking, dare I say it, a bit silly and acting a bit daft - key components of mask work - and for me was a refreshing experience. Eight schools, eight performances, over four days……is something quite spectacular!

The Physical Fellowship is an inspiring platform for young people to showcase their potential, and Vamos is proud to be part of it. We’d like to thank everyone at Highly Sprung for organising such a great event, and for looking after Marissa so well.
