Rehearsals for Sharing Joy went apace last week, with cast Marissa Gunter, Sarah Hawkins and Richard J Fletcher joining director Rachael Savage to start the process. The show, which will perform at eleven care homes from September 30th, has been commissioned as a special tour by Sanctuary Care.

Sharing Joy is inspired by the work of JABADAO who have trained members of Vamos in ways of taking art into care home settings. The show has been created to engage residents of all ages and stages of health, through full mask, music, dance, movement and interaction, and to find deep connections with all involved.

The cast has been working several scenes: a 1950s proposal scene, set in the cinema; nurses at work in the 1940s; a swing dance routine; and Richard J Fletcher has been polishing off his Elvis act to bring the King himself to life. We’ll keep you posted on how it goes!

This tour of Sharing Joy is funded by Sanctuary Care: the development of the show has been possible with the financial support of  The Eveson Charitable Trust, Worcestershire County Council; Councillors Liz Tucker (Pershore), Graham Vickery (Redditch North), Lucy Hodgson (Malvern Chase), Luke Mallett (Bromsgrove West) and Derek Prodger MBE (Bedwardine) through the Worcestershire County Council Divisional Fund. The show is created in partnership with The Courtyard, Herefordshire’s Centre for the Arts.
