Vamos Theatre’s Kathryn Green led this year’s Theatr Brycheiniog Street Theatre Summer School, which proved to be a great success with participants and the public. The two days of workshops culminated in a performance in Streets Alive at the Brecon Jazz Festival on Saturday August 10th.

Participants, who ranged in age from 11 to 88, spent the first day learning the basic techniques of mask theatre. Later they had the chance to use their new skills to devise their own short mask scenes together; they created some memorable characters, including a group of lads out on the town, a couple of lost hikers with a map, and a particularly surreal fish-fight challenge! Sessions were led in both Welsh and English, with Ian Cisp facilitating in Welsh.

On Saturday, participants took their scenes onto the streets of Brecon, and had a top time performing mask Walkabout to the general public. Alison Gerrish Maguire, whose son took part, summed up his experience saying, "Billy just took part in the two-day workshops for the Brecon Jazz Festival Fringe and loved every minute of it, whilst learning important new skills and having a fantastic experience. Thank you so much!"

Vamos would like to say a huge thank you to Theatr Brycheiniog for having us and congratulations to all our participants - you really did yourselves proud!
