About Vamos Youth Theatre

Vamos Youth Theatre offers young people an opportunity to experience high levels of excellence in drama training, with a particular emphasis on the innovative and engaging mask theatre for which Vamos is known. Members take part in regular skills sessions; in research and development, in technical work and management, and in performance, and are encouraged to engage in every aspect of the running of the group. Auditions are held yearly, and places are highly-sought after.

Vamos Youth Theatre perform regularly, as well as undertaking short tours, and has devised and produced shows including the anarchic Ubu by Alfred Jarry, complete with live band; Ashputtel by Carol Ann Duffy, with movement by ThickSkin’s Neil Bettles; and Flush, a funny and moving full-mask show set both in World War Two and a 1980s nightclub toilet.

Most of all, Vamos Youth Theatre is lots of fun, challenging (in a good way!), and absolutely unique.

The Godiva Project

Vamos Youth Theatre is taking part in The Godiva Project, one of the major events of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, based in the West Midlands. The project creates participatory opportunities for artists and young people throughout the region, involving them in a two-year development of skills and ideas, culminating in a spectacular performance in summer 2012, where Godiva, a ten-meter high sculpture, powered by 50 cyclists, joins 2000 dancers, actors, aerialists, and musicians in a processional performance. Vamos Youth Theatre is honoured to be the only young people’s group representing Worcestershire.

What's it like?

"I have been a member of Vamos Youth Theatre for five years. It has been a wonderful experience which, without doubt, has changed and shaped my future. The opportunity to work with a range of actors from all backgrounds, ages and locations around the county has broadened my understanding of the wider world, along with forming some amazing friendships. It has increased my self confidence and enabled me to grow as a person."

"As a member of Vamos I really feel like I can be an individual and am accepted for who I am. I have relished learning ensemble work and being able to support each other on stage no matter what is thrown at you."

"Vamos is the perfect Youth Theatre for me and has taught me that if you want respect in acting you must earn it, be dedicated, be passionate, be reliable! Vamos will always be a passion of mine and a part of my life that will never be forgotten." Alice Vellender
